UPST : Undergraduate Pre-Interview Screening Test

The Undergraduate Pre-Interview Screening Test (UPST) is the entrance examination conducted by the Indian Association for the Cultivation of Science (IACS), Kolkata, for admission to its prestigious 5-year integrated B.Sc. + M.Sc. program. It evaluates candidates’ proficiency in Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics, with each section comprising 20 computer-based multiple-choice questions (2 marks each). Aspirants who qualify the UPST are then invited for a personal interview, and final selection is based on a combination of UPST performance, interview score, and Class 12 board results. The test thus serves as a key gateway to one of India’s oldest and most esteemed research institutions, offering students a strong foundation in fundamental sciences.
